Two Milekis were killed in a landslide at Kondhavale-Devrukhwadi after a landslide last evening. In this accident, 35 families have fallen in the open. Five persons were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment.
The administration has temporarily relocated everyone from Devrukhwadi to neighboring Ganeshwadi. The administration and local villagers as well as MLA Makrand Patil rushed to the spot. Due to incessant rains for the last 3 days, there has been a drought in the western part of Wai and a sudden crisis hit Devrukhwadi at around 6 pm yesterday.
Many people ran out of their houses after feeling the sudden earthquake. In the meantime, a landslide caused the mountain debris to fall on the house. This frightened the citizens and they ran away. As the power supply was cut off and there was no range for mobiles, other neighboring villagers could not be called for help immediately. Surviving villagers from nearby villages and Devrukhwadi immediately rushed to the rescue.
Soon after, MLA Makrand Patil and the administration rushed to the spot with two JCB machines. As a result, 20 to 25 people were rescued from the rubble overnight. Of these, 5 houses have been leveled while the remaining 12 houses have been reduced to rubble. Some houses have been demolished. The injured Shankar Rajaram Kondhalkar, Poonam Rajaram Kondhalkar, Rudra Shankar Kondhalkar, Tanubai Ganpat Kondhalkar, Ashwini Ramdas Kondhalkar were rushed to Wai Rural Hospital for treatment.
More than 50 animals have died in this place. The rescue operation continued till late at night. However, due to heavy rains, the rescue operation was halted at around 1.30 pm. The rescue operation was resumed at 9 am the next day. The wreckage was removed with the help of two Pokलेmon machines.
About 50 to 60 people have been exposed in the accident and they are in dire need of clothes, cooking utensils, essentials, batteries etc. as there is no power supply.
At around 11.30 am, the administration succeeded in removing the bodies of Raibai and Bhimabai from 7 to 8 feet below. Makrand Patil, Prantadhikari Sangita Rajapurkar Chowgule, Tehsildar Ranjit Bhosale, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shital Kharade-Janve, Inspector of Police Anandrao Khobre, Group Development Officer Uday Kumar Kusurkar, Shripad Jadhav of Public Works Department, Taluka Medical Officer Dr. Sandeep Yadav, Mahesh Zanjurne of Forest Department, Vikrant Dongre, Deputy Chairman of Panchayat Samiti, Mohan Chavan, Anand Chiragute and other activists visited the place. Contractors Kiran Kalokhe, Nandkishore Pardeshi, Vijay Chavan assisted by providing JCB, Poklan machine at their own cost.
